Basics
A Training CD-ROM for Neighborhood Councils
This self-guiding CD-ROM provides a rich interactive multimedia experience
to educate certified Neighborhood Councils and others who interact
with the Department of City Planning on city planning in Los Angeles.
The CD-ROM explains the organization of the Department of City Planning,
the responsibilities of each of its divisions, and the public services
the department provides. It includes a discussion of planning principles
and practices, the role of public participation, and guides users
through the basic planning processes.
The CD-ROM includes information on the Planning and Zoning Code and
the Community Plans, Specific Plans, and Neighborhood Implementation
programs (planning tools) available in each community. It describes
the decision-makers and their role in planning and zoning related
matters and includes a video of the City Planning Commission to give
users an idea of what typically occurs during a commission meeting.
There is a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Section that answers
many common planning questions. Included is a Tutorials section which
runs self-timed tutorials for users to learn how to use and access
the Department of City Planning's website, Zoning Information Map
Access System, and the Summary Case Tracking System.
The Department of City Planning will furnish a free copy of the CD-ROM
to each neighborhood council that gets certified. Additional copies
are available for purchase for $5.00 each. If you wish to purchase
the CD ROM, please contact the City Planning's Publication Office
at (213) 978-1255 or visit them at City Hall, 200 North Spring Street,
Room 575.
